Maybe there really is something in the water these days... Former Sen. Harris Wofford, 90, is set to marry a man at the end of this month, 20 years after the death of his wife. In a column written in The New York Times, the former Pennsylvania senator wrote that after his wife died when he was 70, he didn't expect to fall in love again and remarry. "But the past 20 years have made my life a story of two great loves," he wrote. After the death of his wife, he wrote he "felt grateful to be alive, lucky to have many friends and family members, and glad for a challenging assignment from President Clinton involving national service." "But I also wondered what it would be like living by myself for the rest of my life. I was sure I would never again feel the kind of love Clare and I shared," he wrote. In the column, Wofford shares the story of how he met his wife and how the two supported each other throughout their lives. She died of cancer after 48 years of marriage. Five years after her death, Wofford said he visited Florida, where he met Matthew Charlton. "As we talked, I was struck by Matthew’s inquisitive and thoughtful manner and his charm," he wrote. "I knew he was somebody I would enjoy getting to know. We were decades apart in age with far different professional interests, yet we clicked." Wofford wrote he admired Charlton's "25-year-old spirit." The two became friends and traveled together. "We both felt the immediate spark, and as time went on, we realized that our bond had grown into love," he wrote. "Other than with Clare, I had never felt love blossom this way before." thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/277452-former-sen-harris-wofford-marrying-man-after-wifes-death
