It looks like my brother made the right call in evacuating yesterday. Irma is heading to his home, Port St Lucie. It took him 12 hours to get to Atlanta. Normally, it takes 9. He left at 5 am and said the turnpike was already gridlocked so they came up through Jacksonville. He said traffic was still pretty bad but at least it was moving. I'm just glad he left. He stayed when a Cat 2 hit several years back and said, never again. I can't imagine how scary it is. The hurricanes hit Atlanta but only after they've been downgraded to tropical storms and they're pretty rough (Tornadoes scare me. I saw one once). When Opal hit, a tree fell on our house. It looks like Florida is going to be ripped to shreds by this thing.

Right after I posted that, I saw someone had already memed it.

Fucking A! I hope she runs out steam. I am not looking forward to the tornadoes. Plus, I'm suppose to play golf Wednesday morning at a fancy club.

Looks like your golf game might be a little soggy. I can't blame the weather for my game. I pretty much suck. I'm a great putter but my driving is sketchy. When I remember not to hit it like a softball, I'm okay but that rarely happens. Hell, half the time I miss altogether (whiff).

The guy at the pool store told me Irma's suppose to be a Cat 2 when it hits Atlanta. Bad news for us with all the trees. It seems like a tree falls across Scott Blvd every time we get a thunderstorm, much less a hurricane. These are just from storms...

I filled up all the cars with gas, filled up the propane tanks, and bought 4 cases of water, a case of Select 55, a box of Franzia, and a few boxes of Aldi's salad mix. I should be all set.

BTW, in Atlanta, you have to have permission from an arborist to take down a tree. My parents had to go round and round with them to have a giant oak tree removed. The only reason they got the permit was because my dad started crying telling them it scared him during storms. It was after he had his stroke. They would've just had it done but it had to be removed by a professional and no one would touch it without a permit because the city would come after them. It ended up costing them $8,000.00 and a lot of headache to have that damn tree removed.

Hurricane Irma causes hotel gridlock in Atlanta ATLANTA, Ga. -- Finding a hotel room in Atlanta is reminiscent of Atlanta's Snow Jam of 2014. It may be nearly impossible to find a hotel room in Atlanta. Hurricane Irma is headed up the East Coast. Mandatory evacuations for much of Florida and all counties east of I-95 in Georgia. This path toward Florida has many traveling north to Atlanta. On Thursday, we followed 11Alive News travel planner Emily Buck as she tried to find hotel openings in Atlanta. In the last 24 hours, Buck has called more than 20 hotels with no luck. Buck needs hotel rooms for company employees headed to Atlanta to cover the storm and those employees living in the Tampa and Jacksonville areas. Buck says although she needs hotel rooms for company employees, her heart especially goes out to the families fleeing the storm in desperate need of a place to stay. www.11alive.com/news/local/hurricane-irma-causes-hotel-gridlock-in-atlanta/472067248

Well, I just hope is fizzles out since it seems like it's going to be over land for awhile. Hate it for the people in it's path but going further west puts me in a better position not to have downed trees.
ATLANTA - The FOX 5 Storm Team is tracking Hurricane Irma as the ferocious Category 4 Storm continues on a path toward Florida, then Georgia.
The National Hurricane Center's 2 p.m. update said Irma was located about 380 miles southeast of Miami, moving west at 14 miles per hour. The storm has maximum sustained winds of 155 miles per hour. The "cone of uncertainty" has shifted further west, putting more of Georgia at risk from the remnants of the storm.

I don't even do that on a good day and, not to mention, how well it worked out for the people of NOLA.

Well the bottom half of FL is mostly swamp, so it won't be over real land until it hits the panhandle.
