Rappers stole it from rednecks.
And don't try to tell me that's not typical country, either. Ever hear Roger Miller? Ever hear the Carter Family sing more than four different notes in one song? Ever hear someone call a square dance?
Rap was appropriated from redneck culture. So, where's the outcry? Where's the outrage? Where's the liberal angst?

On top of that, instead of improving it they ^%$#'ed it all up so bad it's criminal.

Just what all those white Brits in the 1960s did to the blues.
Payback is a bitch.
But at least we know what rap is now. Just paying whitey back for butchering the blues. We knew nobody invented that crap because they actually wanted to listen to it...

There was one that a couple of the early Invasion personalities went to see--I forget his name--who said, 'These white boys want to play the blues so bad. And that's how they play it--so bad!'
But, yeah, they didn't complain about the money they were suddenly making.

But, yeah, they didn't complain about the money they were suddenly making. Virtually every major band in the 60's-70's re-recorded a old blues standard. Of course with varying degrees of success. I happen to like a lot of them. George Thorogood's 'One bourbon, one scotch, one beer' comes to mind, but there are plenty of examples.
