So the cop did everything wrong. He got a paid vacation and his department is changing nothing. The nurse did everything right and the security guard managed to avoid being charged with obstruction while doing nothing to aid the petty tyrant with a badge. Yet the hospital is changing policies and retraining everyone.
Why do I not find this even a tiny bit reassuring?

For the people who did the right thing to stop apologizing and the people who did the wrong thing to start apologizing? I know. I know. Too much to ask.

TN has implied consent laws. Among other things, if there is a road accident involving a fatality, it falls under the jurisdiction of the state police. Their policy is to test blood from all parties, and asking for consent is just a courtesy. Attempts to change this law never make it out of committee because it is tied to massive amounts of federal grant money going to DUI programs run by the governor's office. As a result, TN has some of the toughest DUI laws in the country, right behind Utah.
Guaranteed if she let them draw blood and they guy had drugs in his system (he did, because the hospital was already giving him something via IV), they would charge him with manslaughter or vehicular homicide first and ask questions later.

I wonder if it's too much to expect that this incident might cause Tennesseans to question whether this law.

I wonder if it's too much to expect that this incident might cause Tennesseans to question whether this law. It's been tried, but the cop lobby is strong. It's like going up against pallets of cash. Results are similar to this:

At first I thought they were upset with the hospital security officers, because they didn't stop the nut, dressed up like a cop from dragging a nurse out of the hospital.
Now I see, perhaps they thought the nut needed help, dragging the nurse out of the hospital.

There's a bit of an adjustment period when the inmates take over the asylum...
