'Comedy is no stranger to [the Democratic National Convention] podium. It's a terrible thing for a comedian to have to get up here and follow what I did.'--Will Rogers

'You see they have two of these bodies--Senate and [House]. That is for the convenience of visitors. If there is nothing funny happening in one there is sure to be in the other. And in case one body passes a good bill, why the other can see it in time, and kill it.'--Will Rogers

'If every man was left absolutely to his own method of righting his own affairs, why, a big majority would get it done, But he can't do that. The government has not only hundreds but literally thousands in Washington to see that no man can personally attend to his own business.'--Will Rogers

"The government, by statistics, shows they have got 456 treaties that they have broken with the Indians. That is why the Indians get a kick out of reading the usual remark when some big affair comes up: 'Our honor is at stake.'"--Will Rogers

'Comedy is no stranger to [the Democratic National Convention] podium. It's a terrible thing for a comedian to have to get up here and follow what I did.'-- Will RogersSeems funny, how someone who speaks the truth is called a 'comedian.' 'I think it is a little ironical that the same convention which thinks that Will Rogers is a clown accepts Huey Long as a statesman.'-- Heywood BrounThat's the hubris of these political psychopaths in a nutshell. That said, I think it's only fair to point out that he was funnier in his time than he is today. Back then, the things he said people could afford to laugh at, because while they had an element of truth, they were also still far-fetched. Today there's nothing far fetched about any of it. It has become the ugly reality. 'Politics is business with the Democrat. He don't work at it, but he tells what he would do if he was working at it.'-- Will Rogers

'A delegation of senators and congressmen will be the ones to decide just how far advanced you are in intelligence and how many years away from freedom, it won't be the people who will do that.'-- Will Rogers

'There are two things that seem like got started wrong in life. One was the Constitution of the United States. The men that laid that out didn't seem to know what we needed, and so these modern smarter men have been all these years trying to improve it and get it fixed up properly. And the other thing was teeth. It seems the Lord when He laid out our original teeth didn't know much about teeth, so He just put those we have in temporarily 'till the doctors could come along and get 'em out or get 'em remodeled so they amounted to something.--Will Rogers

'Our children are delivered to schools in automobiles. But whether that adds to their grades is doubtful. There hasn't been a Thomas Jefferson produced in this country since we formed our first trust. Rail splitting produced an immortal president in Abraham Lincoln, but golf (with twenty thousand courses) hasn't produced even a good A Number One Congressman.'--Will Rogers
