I don't remember which 'they' he was talking about, though I'm thinking it was the Russians under Stalin. But these days, that 'they' seems to be 'we'.

W.C. Fields said Rogers went on stage at the Ziegfield Follies most nights a week for years and never repeated a single gag. Fields had never seen anything like it, and never saw anything like it again.
For a little while, he had two daily syndicated columns and a radio show. He was also doing a few movies, but that was the days of silent movies...
